Releaseconcert van jong klassiek talent Valentina Tóth in sfeervolle Waalse Kerk
Klassiek pianiste Valentina Tóth gaf een concert in de Waalse Kerk van Amsterdam. Het boeiende concert liet ons stukken horen van haar tweede cd met de titel;
"Ruralia Hungarica, Humoresken in Form einer Suite".
Valentina Tóth studeerde af voor haar Bachelor Piano aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussel. Ze studeerde tevens acteren aan het Royal Institute of Theatre, Cinema, and Sound in Brussel, en hiervoor studeerde ze aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag bij Ellen Corver.
Ze ontving de 1e prijs en publieksprijs op het Nationale Prinses Christina Concours in Den Haag en de 1e prijs op het Internationaal Muziekconcours Stockholm. Daarnaast was ze onder meer finalist op het Steinway Concours en YPF-pianoconcours, waar ze soleerde met het EnAccord strijkkwartet. Op haar 15e gaf zij een concert in Carnegie Hall, New York. Datzelfde jaar speelde zij live op TV voor Menahem Pressler tijdens het Edisongala Klassiek 2009.
In 2011 maakte BNN een documentaire over Valentina (‘Je zal het maar zijn’), waarvoor ze een concert mocht geven op de Yehudi Menuhin School in Engeland. En is zij te zien als de vaste pianist bij het TV-programma De Tiende Van Tijl (NPO2), vanaf seizoen 4, 5 en 6.
In 2015 gaf ze een solo-optreden tijdens de Effie Awards in de Grote Zaal van Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. En in datzelfde jaar speelde ze op uitnodiging van de Nederlandse Ambassade een concert in de Nationale Philharmonie van Vilnius, Litouwen. Valentina speelde toen ook mee in de muziektheatervoorstelling "Voor Elise" van Tomoko Mukaiyama. Tomoko is een Japans pianiste, beeldend kunstenaar, (film) componist en tevens regisseur.
In 2016 maakte en speelde zij in opdracht van Kunstklank de muziektheatervoorstelling “Prelude de la Mort de Monsieur Mouche”. In 2017 speelde zij mee in de voorstelling “Nachtasiel”, een coproductie van Theater Antigone en Theatre National Bruxelles. In 2018 speelde zij mee in de voorstelling “Valavond” van Het Houten Huis. Tevens maakte en speelde zij in 2018, een muzikale familievoorstelling, “Icarus”, samen met Lucas van der Vegt en Anneleen Lemmens.
Valentina speelt al vanaf haar twaalfde piano en kamermuziek in Nederland, België, Duitsland, Engeland, Italië, Griekenland, Oostenrijk, Litouwen, en de VS. Op haar 18e bracht Challenge Classics haar debuut-cd "Hungarian Horizon" uit, met werken van Béla Bartók en Zoltán Kodály. Opus klassiek koos Hungarian Horizon als cd van de maand in mei 2013. Tevens mocht ze voor deze cd een Diapason d'Or in ontvangst nemen.
In oktober 2018 bracht Valentina haar tweede cd uit bij Challenge Classics, nadat haar album was uitgeroepen tot cd van de week bij Classic FM. In de Waalse Kerk konden we genieten van haar releaseconcert.
Valentina op zoek naar haar "muzikale roots" met werk van de Hongaarse componist Ernst von Dohnanyi
Valentina is deels Hongaars en gaat nu voor de tweede keer op zoek naar haar muzikale roots met werk van de Hongaarse componist Ernst von Dohnanyi. Zijn werk wordt gekenmerkt door levendige composities die veelal verstild eindigen. Ze bracht 3 delen van de 5 gevarieerde Humoresken, die von Dohnanyi in een rumoerige tijd had geschreven. Het begon bescheiden met een beschaafde mars, met piano in de eigen fortes en daaropvolgend een grote crescendo, om uiteindelijk als een kaars te doven. Na de pastorale kwam ze met de introductie en fuga, groot gebracht met heftig pianospel, om uiteindelijk weer te doven als een kaars.
Valentina eindigde met 4 delen Hungaria Ruaralia. Von Dohnanyi schreef deze ter ere van het destijds 50 jarig bestaan van Budapest, maar ook voor heel Hongarije. Het is een suite geworden van 7 delen, met inspiratie van een volkslied of melodie uit verschillende gebieden van Hongarije, een land dat rijk is aan volksmuziek.
Interview met Hongaarse ambassadeur András Kocsis
Na het mooie concert van Valentina Tóth sprak de Hongaarse ambassadeur András Kocsis lovende woorden over haar optreden. Behalve Hongaarse volksmuziek heeft Hongarije ook bijgedragen aan de
klassieke muziek met bijzondere componisten als Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Franz Liszt en György Ligeti.
We kregen na het concert gelegenheid voor een kort interview in het Engels met de ambassadeur.
What do you like about the musical talent of Valentina?
When you listen to it for the very first time you can immediately hear how powerful her play is. It is all the more remarkable because she has just started her career. It is very important to bring this message of young talented artists and pianists to the whole Netherlands. It is also special in this case because Valentina is partly from Hungarian origin.
Do you think Hungarian culture is widely spread in the Netherlands?
I would like to think that. It is a very important part of my job, and that is why I am also here tonight at this concert. I try to bring Hungary to every piece of the Netherlands, including Schiermonnikoog, which was one of my first visits to the country. Also Zeeland and Domburg where the Hungarian painter (Krisztián Horváth) exhibited his paintings. So all over the country, when I am invited I am gladly going because it is important, and it is practically the easiest way to reach out to the general public.
How did you get this position being ambassador of Hungaria in the Netherlands?
I'am a career diplomat myself. I have been working for the Foreign Service since 2003 and this is my third posting. My first time was in Nairobi Kenya for four years, and in our system you have to return to your capital city after four years of every posting. My second posting was the Netherlands, I was deputy ambassador for a bit more than 3 years. After that I returned to Budapest again and then I came back to this beautiful country in 2016.
Can you tell us a bit about your passion when it comes to music?
Music touches your soul I think. No matter what kind of piece you are listening to. It definitely reaches your inner self. That is why I do not think it is necessary to get acquainted to the pieces in advance, because they can speak for themselves and of course when you have such a performer like Valentina it is very easy to get carried away.
What are your goals as Hungarian ambassador in the Netherlands for the years to come?
One of my most important goals is to boost the trade relations between our countries. Both countries, the Netherlands and Hungary are focusing very hard on foreign trade. This is also the job of every Hungarian ambassador to do that. Which means bringing Dutch multinationals to Hungary to invest, and of course help Hungarian small and midsize businesses to export to the Netherlands. That’s one, and the second most important part of my job is the cultural diplomacy. Because just as I mentioned before it is very easy to reach out to the people. And that is why it is important to go the country side as well. Beyond the Randstad and get acquainted with the people. Because if you bring a piece of Hungarian music or art, then the people can relate very easily to the country itself.
